Creating your website is exciting! You need a site that communicates, connects, and reflects your values – one that can SELL. That’s why it’s essential to have a unique website tailored just for you.
With WordPress, it’s simple. Unlike platforms like Wix or Squarespace, WordPress gives you the flexibility and control to customise your site without limits.
Benefits of WordPress
- Flexibility: Build any type of website, from blogs to shops. Add features as you grow.
- Control: Choose from thousands of themes and plugins to make your site truly yours.
- Cost-Effective: WordPress is free, with hosting plans starting at just a few pounds a month.
Follow These Steps to Get Started:
1. Choose a Domain Name
Pick a simple name (like mywebsite.co.uk).
2. Get Hosting
Find a reliable provider, I recommend Hostinger.
3. Install WordPress
Most hosting services have a one-click install on your dashboard.
4. Choose a Theme
Go to “Appearance” > “Themes” and pick one you like.
5. Customise Your Site
Add your logo, change colours, and set your navigation menu in “Appearance” > “Customise” or “Editor”.
You can update the below in general settings:
- Site Title: Your site’s name (e.g., “Scarlett Cohen”).
- Tagline: A brief description (e.g., “Your Partner in Productivity”).
- Site Icon: This appears in browser tabs. Use a square image (512×512 pixels).
Updating these settings ensures your site represents your brand.
6. Add Content
Use “Pages” for static content and “Posts” for blogs. Set this up under “Settings” > “Reading.”
7. Install Plugins
Go to “Plugins” > “Add New” for features like contact forms and SEO tools.
8. Launch Your Site
Before going live, ensure search engines can find your site by unticking “Discourage Search Engines from Indexing This Site.”
